Eva-Maria Bonnelycke

Eva-Maria Bønnelycke is a Marine Scientist with a particular research interest in the use of novel technological approaches to study the health and physiology of marine mammals and contribute to their conservation. Eva-Maria completed her Bachelor of Science in Marine Science at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with High Honours and was inducted into the national Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honour Society. She received her Master of Science in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland and graduated with Distinction. Eva-Maria has since published her Master’s research on the use of near-infrared spectroscopy as a tool to characterise the effects of anaesthesia in seals. Currently she is working as a Research Assistant at the Sea Mammal Research Unit of the University of St. Andrews to study the physiological adjustments of human free divers during prolonged immersions and how these compare to those of diving marine mammals. Throughout Eva-Maria’s professional career, she has engaged in numerous laboratory and field research experiences including boat-based photo-ID and biopsy surveys of bottlenose dolphin populations, analysis of dolphin acoustics, oceanographic sampling, DNA analysis of fish eggs, and performance testing of human biomedical technologies.
